Pricing and Deposit
Thanksgiving turkeys are available frozen the Saturday and Monday before Thanksgiving. They are $6.00 per pound on those days. If you pick up your turkey fresh when it is processed in August or October, there is a $1.00 per pound discount so the turkey will be $5.00 per pound instead of $6.00. A $20 deposit is required to reserve your turkey. To reserve a turkey, please fill out the order form and pay for the deposit.
Why we sell frozen turkeys
We do not offer fresh turkeys for Thanksgiving because it is too cold and wet at the end of November for them to be outside. We raise them in the spring and summer when there is lots of grass and bugs for them to eat and then process and freeze them fast and hard to seal in freshness. Because we keep our turkeys frozen at very low temperatures (between -10 and 0 degrees), they taste just as good as a turkey processed the week of Thanksgiving.
Store bought fresh turkeys are not actually fresh
Most turkeys you buy in the store that are sold as "fresh" have actually been frozen for many months and have either been defrosted right before the sale or have been soft frozen meaning they were kept at 26-28 degrees. The USDA allows turkeys to be sold as fresh as long as they do not get frozen under 26 degrees. Here is a link to the USDA website talking about what fresh turkey actually means: Turkey from Farm to Table
We believe that because our turkeys are frozen hard when they are in their prime eating lots of fresh grass, they are better then any "fresh" turkey you can buy in the store.
